Propane price per gallon by state today: all 50 states
This table lists all 50 states from A to Z. EIA publishes prices for 38 of them. The other 12 show Coming soon because EIA has no figure for them. We never guess or copy a regional number into a state. EIA has no figure for the District of Columbia either. The estimate column is 400 gallons times the price. That is a 500-gallon tank filled to 80 percent. We add the missing prices when EIA publishes them.

Wholesale. Suppliers buy propane at the wholesale price and sell it to homes at the retail price. At Mont Belvieu in Texas the spot price was $1.203 on Oct 27, 2026. That is up $0.070 from Oct 20, 2026. A year earlier on Oct 27, 2025 it was $0.674. So it is almost twice as high. Wholesale propane follows world energy markets. Our international LPG price page covers that side.

Weather. A heating degree day shows how cold it was. A higher number means more heating. From October 26 to November 1 the lower 48 states had 59 heating degree days. On the same days of 2025 the total was 89. So it was a bit milder than last year. That means less heating so far.
Today’s extra: propane prices against last year, region by region
The US home average is $0.296 higher than a year ago. But that is an average. EIA also keeps a weekly price for each region. Here are 6 of them. We took the week of October 26, 2026 and the same week of 2025. That was the week of October 27, 2025.
| Region | Week of Oct 27, 2025 | Week of Oct 26, 2026 | Change per gallon | Change in % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US average | $2.434 | $2.730 | +$0.296 | +12.2% |
| New England | $3.453 | $3.917 | +$0.464 | +13.4% |
| Central Atlantic | $3.229 | $3.639 | +$0.410 | +12.7% |
| Lower Atlantic | $3.354 | $3.699 | +$0.345 | +10.3% |
| Midwest | $1.931 | $2.199 | +$0.268 | +13.9% |
| Gulf Coast | $2.842 | $3.028 | +$0.186 | +6.5% |
| Rocky Mountain | $2.089 | $2.377 | +$0.288 | +13.8% |

Every region is higher than last year. The New England region rose the most in dollars at $0.464 per gallon. The Gulf Coast region rose the least at $0.186. In percent the Midwest region rose the most (13.9 percent). It started from a lower price.
Wholesale prices moved much more. At Mont Belvieu the spot price was $1.203 on Oct 27, 2026. On Oct 27, 2025 it was $0.674. That is $0.529 more per gallon. The US home price rose $0.296 over about the same year. Part of a home price is delivery and other local costs. Those do not move as fast. This is not a forecast.
Estimate: what does the change mean for a fill? Take 400 gallons for a 500-gallon tank. At the US average: 400 × $0.296 = $118.40 more than a year ago. In the New England region: 400 × $0.464 = $185.60 more. Taxes and fees are not included.
How to check your own propane price
EIA gives a price for 38 states. It has no city or ZIP code prices. In our table Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming say Coming soon because EIA has no figure for them. To find your own price:
- Call two or three local suppliers. Ask for the price per gallon and the date it applies.
- Ask about the delivery fee and any tank rental fee.
- Ask if the price is fixed for the winter or can change.
- Compare it with the state price in our weekly state table. A big gap is worth a question.
A low price per gallon is not the whole bill. Some suppliers add fees that do not show in any EIA number. Read our list of common hidden fees in propane contracts before you sign a winter contract.
