Propane price per gallon by state today: all 50 states
This table lists all 50 states from A to Z. EIA publishes prices for 38 of them. The other 12 show Coming soon because EIA has no figure for them. We never guess or copy a regional number into a state. EIA has no figure for the District of Columbia either. The estimate column is 400 gallons times the price. That is a 500-gallon tank filled to 80 percent. We add the missing prices when EIA publishes them.

Wholesale. Suppliers buy propane at the wholesale price and sell it to homes at the retail price. At Mont Belvieu in Texas the spot price was $1.133 on Oct 20, 2026. That is up $0.095 from Oct 13, 2026. A year earlier on Oct 20, 2025 it was $0.581. So it is almost twice as high. Wholesale propane follows world energy markets. Our international LPG price page covers that side.

Weather. A heating degree day shows how cold it was. A higher number means more heating. From October 19 to October 25 the lower 48 states had 59 heating degree days. On the same days of 2025 the total was 68. So it was a bit milder than last year. That means less heating so far.
Today’s extra: which states rose or fell most in the latest week
EIA compares each state with the week before. 35 of the 38 states went up in the week of October 19, 2026. 3 went down. The US average rose $0.056 per gallon. Here are the biggest moves.
| State | Week of Oct 12, 2026 | Week of Oct 19, 2026 | Change per gallon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arkansas | $2.379 | $2.596 | +$0.217 |
| Vermont | $3.697 | $3.881 | +$0.184 |
| Maine | $3.536 | $3.709 | +$0.173 |
| Massachusetts | $3.500 | $3.659 | +$0.159 |
| Colorado | $2.262 | $2.362 | +$0.100 |
| Maryland | $3.801 | $3.799 | −$0.002 |
| Tennessee | $3.224 | $3.219 | −$0.005 |
| Idaho | $2.625 | $2.586 | −$0.039 |

Arkansas had the biggest jump. It went from $2.379 to $2.596. It is still below the US average of $2.689. Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts are in New England. The New England average was $3.872 per gallon that week (EIA).
Estimate: what does a rise mean for a fill? Take 400 gallons for a 500-gallon tank. In Arkansas 400 × $0.217 = $86.80 more than a week earlier. At the US average 400 × $0.056 = $22.40 more.
The falls were small. Idaho (−$0.039), Tennessee (−$0.005) and Maryland (−$0.002) were the only states that went down. Wholesale prices rose in the same weeks (see above).
How to check your own propane price
EIA gives a price for 38 states. It has no city or ZIP code prices. In our table Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, West Virginia or Wyoming say Coming soon because EIA has no figure for them. To find your own price:
- Call two or three local suppliers. Ask for the price per gallon and the date it applies.
- Ask about the delivery fee and any tank rental fee.
- Ask if the price is fixed for the winter or can change.
- Compare it with the state price in our weekly state table. A big gap is worth a question.
The EIA wholesale average was $1.242 and the home average was $2.689. The gap is $1.447. It pays for trucks and storage and it varies by supplier. Read our list of common hidden fees in propane contracts before you sign.
