Source: Goodreturns (page dated 30 October 2026). Jammu and Kashmir has two capitals. Port Blair was renamed Sri Vijaya Puram. Goodreturns still uses the old name.

Why are Ladakh and Lakshadweep not available? Goodreturns has no page for either. Other sites disagree on Leh by more than ₹100, and Kavaratti appears on only one small site. We leave a gap rather than print a guess.

Where sources differ. A Rajya Sabha reply reported by The Indian Express (20 July 2026) matches our table for nearly every capital. It shows Patna at ₹1,040 and Shimla at ₹986.50, a little off the current Goodreturns figures we use. Please confirm with your distributor.

Which capitals pay the most and the least?

The six cheapest capitals sit within ₹8 of each other. They are Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Bhopal and Gandhinagar. All six are between ₹941.50 and ₹949.50. At the top end sit four North-East capitals: Agartala, Gangtok, Aizawl and Imphal. Each is above ₹1,093. We looked at why in Monday’s post.

Spotlight: LPG cylinder price in East India capitals

Today we turn east. We compare four capitals: Kolkata in West Bengal, Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Ranchi in Jharkhand and Patna in Bihar. Yesterday we looked at the west and the centre of the country. The east shows a wider spread, and it climbs as you move inland.

Kolkata and Bhubaneswar share the lowest home cylinder price in the group at ₹968. Ranchi comes next at ₹999.50. Patna is the costliest at ₹1,031.50. That is ₹63.50 more than Kolkata for the same cylinder. A family that books twelve refills a year in Patna pays about ₹762 more than a family in Kolkata. This is our own sum, not a quoted figure. Patna also has the highest home cylinder price among the big cities on the Goodreturns main list today.

The commercial cylinder tells a slightly different story. Kolkata and Bhubaneswar pay the same for the home cylinder, but a 19 kg cylinder costs ₹34 more in Bhubaneswar. Patna is again the costliest at ₹3,100.50. A restaurant there pays ₹146.50 more per cylinder than one in Kolkata. For a small eatery that uses a few cylinders a week, that gap adds up fast.

Why do the inland capitals pay more? We have not found an official breakdown for these cities. In general, the price in each market depends on local taxes and the cost of moving cylinders from the bottling plant or import terminal. Kolkata and Bhubaneswar sit close to the coast. Ranchi and Patna are further from it. Read this as a general reason and not a sourced split for each city.

One more eastern point is far out at sea. Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands pays ₹1,018 for the home cylinder and ₹3,289 for the commercial one. Cylinders reach the islands by ship, so a higher price there is no surprise.

A tip before you book. The booking gap is 25 days from your last refill. Open your LPG app and check the date of your last booking. Then you will know if you can book again before Diwali on 8 November.

What decides the LPG price in India

The Saudi contract price

India imports a large share of its LPG. The Saudi contract price is the reference. For October 2026 it was $680 a tonne for propane and $730 for butane. In September it was $625 and $660. Both rose. These figures come from Reuters (1 October 2026). The November price had not been announced as of 30 October 2026.

The loss on each cylinder

Oil companies sell the domestic cylinder below cost. The loss is called under-recovery. The chairman of HPCL said the loss was ₹245 a cylinder in October. He expects it to reach ₹327 in November, as reported by Moneycontrol on 23 October 2026. A larger loss does not mean a price rise is coming. It does show the pressure on the companies.

Subsidy and booking rules

The Rajya Sabha reply quoted by The Indian Express says the effective price for Ujjwala (PMUY) households is ₹642 for a 14.2 kg cylinder. The market price is ₹942 in Delhi. The difference is the targeted subsidy.

  • From 7 September 2026 the booking gap is 25 days for all consumers, as reported by The Hindu.
  • Biometric Aadhaar checks for domestic users began on 1 October 2026, as reported by The Times of India.
  • Mint reported on 26 October 2026 that this e-KYC rule will be enforced more strictly in November. Households that have not finished it may not be able to book a subsidised refill until they do. If you already completed it, you do not need to repeat it.

How to check the price in your own town

  1. Open your latest cash memo or bill. The amount charged is the real price for you.
  2. Look at your LPG company’s app or website and open the booking screen. It shows the amount before you pay.
  3. Ask your distributor for the current rate and the delivery charge. Ask if the charge is already included.
  4. Compare it with the capital price on this page. A small difference is normal. A large one is worth a question.

Before you book a November refill, open your LPG app and check that your Aadhaar e-KYC shows as complete. A quick check now can save a blocked booking later.

What to expect next

Oil companies usually review LPG prices on the 1st of each month. The next review would normally fall on 1 November 2026, a week before Diwali on 8 November. No change has been announced as of 30 October 2026. NDTV also noted on 29 October that no change for 1 November had been officially announced. Goodreturns wrote on 29 October that another rise in the commercial price looks likely and that the home cylinder may stay the same. That is a forecast, not an announcement. We publish a fresh page every morning and will flag any change at the top. Past pages are in our daily LPG price archive.

There is also news on the delivery side. Oil companies have agreed to recommend an interim rise in the commission paid to LPG distributors, as reported by The Hindu BusinessLine on 25 October 2026. The ministry has not approved it yet. The two main distributor federations said they do not support a strike call by a smaller group and promised normal home delivery, as reported by The Hindu on the same day. A smaller group, the LPG Distributors Association (India), held a protest in Delhi on 26 October and warned of a strike if its demands are not met within a month, as reported by ENERGDIVE on 27 October 2026. This does not change the price you pay today, and home delivery is running as normal.
